Focus

Focus: A Small Thing Which Can Make a Big Difference In Your Life

Brother, if there is one thing I would like you to have in this 2020, it is FOCUS. It might be the real difference maker in your career, business or personal life.

The word “Focus” itself can sometimes stand as an acronym for:

Follow One Course Until Successful

See bro, I want you to pick just ONE business or skill and focus solely on it this year, until you’re known as an authority in it.

Truth is, you need focus now more than ever, because the internet has brought to your attention a lot of noise and shinning objects. So every time you log into the internet, you’re likely to see people telling you about a more profitable skill, career or business than the one you’re trying to focus on.

My advice to you is this; pay deaf ears and blind eyes to them until you’re successful in that one you’ve your focus on.

It is not news that most our generation lack focus. And why is this so? It is simply because we’re highly IMPATIENT.

We want to make it BIG quickly.

We want to see HUGE results once we begin something.

Our attention span is so short that a lot of us can’t read a 4-minute article.

Gary Vaynerchuk, one of my big-time role models has always emphasized on the importance of PATIENCE.

In one of his tweets, he said and I quote;

“Patience comes from peace within. When you play the game for yourself, you enjoy the game itself.

When you play to prove to others you are successful or stick it to them to prove them wrong, you become wildly impatient which leads to unhappiness.”

This tweet is so spot on.

I mean, the main reason most of us are so much in a haste to make it big in life is because we’re so eager to show off our success, posting posh pictures on social media, shutting down clubs or ceremonies; or to pepper those who are taking us for granted or ignoring us now when we’re still building.

And it’s this impatience which makes it so hard for you to focus on one thing because your attention is easily caught by another opportunity which promises faster results.

Now, don’t mistake being patient with being lazy. That I said you should be patient is no excuse for you to be lazy and keep on procrastinating.

The right strategy is to have MICRO-SPEED and MACRO-PATIENCE.

Micro-speed means that you should carry your day to day activities with a sense of urgency and consistency. You know, get up early and grind; put in hours learning and perfecting that skill every day; cold calling and meeting new prospects every day; starting and finishing that book/course; marketing your goods and services like your life depends on it, etc.

However, you should have Macro-patience the same time. That is, you should know that even though you’re giving your 100% every day to your hustle, it’ll still take TIME for you to build something BIG and SUSTAINABLE which would give you the type of financial independence you desire.

A wise man once said, “Rome wasn’t built in a day, but they were laying blocks every day.”

If you understand the above quote, then you’ll also understand the Micro-speed; Macro-patience strategy.

Now, you might be wondering; how do you know when to quit? I mean, when you’ve focused on a particular thing or field for a while and there’s still nothing to show for it.

The answer is simple… Only quit something when you’re proud of the effort you’ve given towards it.

For Instance;  if you’ve focused a long time on your music career, and it hasn’t really picked up steam as you desired, only quit when you’re proud of yourself for the effort and grind you’ve put into it.

So that in the future, you can say with utmost respect for yourself, and not with regrets;

“I gave my 100% when I was in music, but I guess it wasn’t for me.”

Summary: Focus

Focus is a very essential ingredient of success in any field of life. Unfortunately, it is quite expensive. But with self-discipline you can afford it.

I’m rooting for you brother. I’m certain you’ll break a lot of barriers in your lifetime—that is, if you’ve focus.

Stay Focused,
