Why Guys Slip into Depression After Breakup
Whenever I hear of a guy who slipped into depression or committed suicide because of a heartbreak, it brings serious pains to my heart. It has already happened more than three times this year.
So, I would want to address that here. Because I don’t want to hear stories that touch the cardiac muscles about a brother who is following this blog.
Now, the main reason that depression happened is that those guys allowed their whole lives to revolve around their girls. I mean, their girlfriends were probably the best thing happening in their life at that moment.
Hence, when that most important thing left their lives, there was no other reason to live. So, they took their own lives.
Tell me how these below scenarios would sound to you:
- Hazard (the former Chelsea player) fell into depression and decided to quit football because his girlfriend left him.
- Jeff Bezos, the richest man in the world, committed suicide because his wife decided to divorce him.
It sounds pretty silly right? Yeah. You know why? Because it’s likely not going to happen.
I mean a girl is not the most awesome and amazing thing in Hazard’s life, he has his career. He might be pained if his girl leaves him. True, but he won’t fall into depression because he has other amazing things in his life—like his football career, his fans who love him all over the world and other amazing things.
Jeff Bezos won’t consider suicide just because his wife left him because he has an empire to run. He has something really more important in his life.
However, if you look closely into the life of these guys who slipped into depression after their girlfriend left them, you’ll find that they don’t really have any other thing which really excited them in their life except their women.
Maybe they were studying a course they don’t really like, or doing a job which they hate, or don’t really have the sort of amazing friendships they desire. You could say they felt they had a very boring life.
And the only thing which kept them going was having an awesome girlfriend. And when that girl left, their life went crumbling, and they found no reason to live again.
Find Your Purpose and Make it Your Mission
I always tell men, “Never make any woman your mission.” But most men don’t really understand this.
Getting or keeping a particular woman shouldn’t be your priority in life. Your priority should be discovering your purpose. Figure out what you really want in life and make it your mission to get that thing you really want.
And that thing should NEVER be a particular woman or even a human being.
Well, human beings disappoint, they can change one night, pack and leave your life. But your goals will never do that to you. Always remember this.
Discovering Your Purpose and Working Towards It Every day Prevents Depression After Breakup
Now, don’t get worried if you don’t really know what you want in life at the moment—discovering one’s purpose is actually a gradual process. You can’t just figure it all out at once.
However, you can start by:
1) Building Your Career
You should make a firm decision to be one of the top individuals in your workplace. Seek advice from the top persons in your field and emulate them.
Observe them closely and do and act how they act. Always learn from the best. Take courses, read, and learn the required skill which you need to become one of the best individuals in your industry. Become ambitious and always seek and desire the best.
2) Learning a Valuable Skill
If you’re not a career person, you could learn a marketable skill which would earn you money. A valuable skill is usually the one which solves pressing problem(s) faced by people.
Some valuable skills right now in 2019 include: Copywriting, selling, emotional intelligence, networking, video editing, fashion designing, carpentry, coding, web developing, social media mgt., digital marketing, content creation, etc.
The better you’re at a skill, the higher fee you can command. So don’t just be comfortable learning a skill, hone and perfect it.
3) Mastering Your Art
If you’re artistic, that is, you’re a musician, artist, or a painter, focus on perfecting it. Learn from the experts in your art and keep practicing. As you know already, “Practice makes perfect.”
The amazing thing is, as you get better with your career, skill, or art, you start having ideas of what it is you really want to do in life. And when you start having an idea of what your purpose is in life; it would motivate you to develop your career, skill, or art even more.
In other words, they complement each other.
Purpose Fuels True Happiness
When you have an idea of what you want in life, and you’re working towards it every day, you’ll be genuinely HAPPY and HOPEFUL about life.
And this sort of happiness and hopefulness cannot be taken away from you when a woman or anybody leaves your life.
True, you might be down for some days or even weeks, but once you remember your purpose and how you’re on the right path to achieve it, the heartbreak would turn into MOTIVATION, rather than depression.
Wrap Up on Avoiding Depression After Breakup
Never make any woman your mission. Don’t ever let your whole life revolve around a woman. After all, she’s still a human being and we have a habit of disappointing.
Rather make discovering and achieving your purpose your main mission in life.
